A neo-Gothic observation tower from 1852 on the hill of Wieżyca (395 metres above sea level) in the Bolków Foothills, commemorating the Battle of Dobromierz.
The Wieżyca Observation Tower stands on the summit of a hill 395 metres above sea level in the Bolków Foothills, by the village of Bronówek near Dobromierz.
In 1745, Austrian commanders observed the movements of Prussian troops from the summit of this hill before the Battle of Dobromierz. A hundred years later, to mark the anniversary of the battle, it was decided to erect a monument on the summit that would also serve as an observation tower. Due to a lack of funds, construction was not completed until 1852.
Between 1877 and 1879 the tower was rebuilt to a design by the architect Karl Lüdecke as the Monument to the Glory of the Prussian Soldier. A restaurant with a ballroom and a summer eatery were built alongside it at that time. The building was erected of brick, in the neo-Gothic style.
The restaurants by the tower operated until around 1952, when the tenants gave them up because of high tax burdens, and a few years later they disappeared completely. In 1991 the tower was bought by a private owner, who had it renovated. The building has been listed in the register of immovable heritage monuments of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship since 1984.
