A palace in the village of Wolany in the municipality of Szczytna, demolished in 1978; a residential block now stands on its site.
Wolany Palace no longer exists. The building, which stood in the village of Wolany, in the municipality of Szczytna, in Kłodzko County, in the western part of the Kłodzko Valley, was demolished in April 1978, and a residential block was built on its site.
The first palace in Wolany was built in 1735 by Georg Olivier von Wallis. The residence burned to the ground in 1827. From 1829 the estate belonged to the barons von Falkenhausen, and in 1835 Baron Konrad von Falkenhausen built a new palace with a garden layout on the same site.
The estate changed hands several times: after von Wallis it passed to Ludwig Wilhelm von Schlabrendorf, then to Prince Wilhelm Alexander von Schönaich-Carolath, and in 1798 it was bought by Duke Louis of Württemberg. His daughter Amelia of Württemberg was born in Wolany in 1799. From 1907 the estate belonged to Friedrich von Martin of Rothenburg, and later to Wolfgang Sternberg, who, because of his Jewish origin, was forced to leave Germany.
During the Second World War a group of around 350 Luxembourgers, resettled to Silesia by the Germans for refusing to cooperate, were held at the palace and estate. After the war the building fell into ruin, and the derelict palace was demolished in April 1978.
Wolany lies in the Kłodzko Valley, a few kilometres from the Spa Park in Polanica-Zdrój and Leśna Castle, so getting to them takes only a dozen or so minutes.
