“Anthill” is the world premiere of a Polish play by Filip Milczarski, staged at the Zdrojowy Teatr Animacji in Jelenia Góra. This colorful, song-filled, eco-friendly story is for audiences aged 4–8. It is directed by Weronika Maria Kuśmider.
When garbage balls appear in the anthill, they disrupt the ants' life and work. The balls increasingly block young ant Marcysia's view of the world. She sets out to find a way to get rid of them and save the anthill from the trash. During her journey, her dad, Mirosław, is kidnapped by a mysterious Beetle. Marcysia and some unexpected allies set out to rescue him. Will she save her dad? What secret does the Beetle hide? And what will happen to the garbage balls?
Marcysia's story raises questions about our agency in the world around us: how much we want to use it, and what must happen before we take matters into our own hands. “Anthill” is a metaphor for our times, in which children, parents, caregivers and grandparents alike can see themselves. The performance aims to spark intergenerational conversations on current issues: ecology, the climate crisis, responsibility and civil courage.
