A classicist palace from 1840 in Kunów near Sobótka, with reliefs modelled on works by Thorvaldsen, today in private hands.
Kunów Palace is a classicist residence from 1840 in Wrocław County, two-storeyed, surrounded by a 4-hectare landscape park. The whole complex - the palace, the park and the former farm buildings - is today private property.
Before the present building was erected in the mid-19th century, a 17th-century defensive manor house surrounded by a moat stood on the same site. The palace was built in 1840 as its successor, in the classicist style.
The building has a rectangular plan, a four-pitched roof and a front bay topped with a triangular tympanum, reached by a two-flight staircase with a ramp. The front elevation is decorated with allegorical reliefs depicting Morning and Dusk - copies of works by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen.
After the Second World War the palace housed a primary school for many years, renovated as late as 1964. Today the building is private property. The palace complex - the manor house, landscape park and farm buildings - has heritage status and is listed in the register, with the park also listed separately.
Kunów lies close to the Ślęża massif and the neighbouring Wieżyca, covered by the Ślęża Landscape Park. Nearby it is also worth visiting the Sobótka-Górka Palace and the Stanisław Dunajewski Ślęża Museum in Sobótka.
