Manor on the Island in Goliszów

The Manor on the Island in Goliszów was a former Renaissance residence in the village of Goliszów, in the Chojnów municipality, in Legnica County, on the river Skora. Today only fragments of brick remain of the building, so it is described mainly as a historical site, not a place to visit.

A manor that stood on an island

The name is not a metaphor: the manor house was indeed built on an island surrounded by a wide moat, and it was reached by a bridge. It was built in the 16th century in the Renaissance style on the initiative of the Liedlau family, and the estate later passed into the hands of the Schellendorff family.

Rebuildings and park

In the 17th and 19th centuries the building underwent significant rebuildings. The residence was surrounded by a naturalistic park laid out in the 17th and 19th centuries, and a steward's house also belonged to the manor complex.

Current condition

The manor building no longer exists. Only remnants of brick have survived on the site, even though the area is still listed as a heritage site under numbers 975/L, A/2874/518/L and A/3509/278. There are therefore no interiors to visit and no active exhibition, and a visit amounts to viewing the site of the former residence.

Surroundings

A few kilometres away lies Chojnów, with the Regional Museum in Chojnów, the Weavers' Tower and the Jewish cemetery. In the other direction you can reach the Piastowski Park.
