A private museum in Kowary with more than a dozen recreated interiors from the communist era, from a kitchen to a school classroom.
The Museum of Sentiments in Kowary is a private collection of recreated interiors from the communist era, spread across more than a dozen themed rooms and several exhibitions in the corridors.
The exhibition covers about a thousand square metres, divided into 17 themed rooms and 5 corridor exhibitions. This sets the museum apart from a single memorial room, since a visit takes more time than one room of old objects.
The rooms recreate specific spaces from past decades: a grandparents' kitchen, a children's and teenagers' room with toys, a doctor's surgery with a reception area, a sports and tourism corner, an internet café in its old-fashioned form, a photographic darkroom, a gallery of Kowary carpets, an era-appropriate bathroom, a cinema hall with screenings from VHS tapes, a school classroom, the parents' living room, the laboratory of the local factory, and a souvenir shop and VHS rental point. The whole is meant to show what everyday equipment, schools, shops and medical clinics looked like in the years of the People's Republic of Poland (PRL).
The museum works like a journey a few decades back in time, so it means the most to people who remember those times, but the recreated interiors are also easy to follow for younger visitors who know them only from stories. It is a good option for a rainy day, whether alone, as a couple, or with the family.
