A sandstone hill in the Bystrzyckie Mountains above Polanica-Zdrój (428 m above sea level), with a chapel and cemetery on its slopes.
Twaróg, also known as Wzgórze Marii, is an elevation in the Bystrzyckie Mountains, 428 metres above sea level, located within the boundaries of Polanica-Zdrój. It is built of sandstones and has the shape of an elongated hump, divided by two valleys.
On the north-western slope of the hill lies a municipal cemetery, and just below the summit stands a chapel with an image of the Mother of God - the source of the German name Marienhöhe. The hill is covered mainly by spruce forest with an admixture of pine and deciduous trees.
Before 1945, Twaróg was a popular destination for excursions among spa guests visiting Polanica, thanks to the views over the centre of the spa town. Today it has lost some of its appeal, as trees that have grown taller and residential development on the slopes have limited the former panoramas.
The hill is just a few hundred metres from the Spa Park in Polanica-Zdrój and Polanica-Zdrój itself. Within a few kilometres are also Leśna Castle and the observation tower in Suszyna.
