bathing area on the Oder below Brzeg Dolny
Wały Bathing Area operates on the grounds of the "Wały" Recreation and Leisure Centre, in the Brzeg Dolny municipality, on the Oder, about 3 kilometres from the town and about 30 kilometres from Wrocław. It is one of the few designated bathing areas in this part of Lower Silesia, a popular spot for locals and visitors coming from Wrocław.
The bathing area was built by the Oder, but the pool basin is separated from the riverbed itself - a solution meant to offer calmer and safer swimming conditions than bathing directly in the Oder's current, which can be unpredictable. The centre lies within the Kraina Łęgów Odrzańskich tourist region, known for its backwaters, oxbow lakes and riverside floodplain forests.
The bathing area has two pools: a shallower one for children, about 0.5-1.5 metres deep, and a second, roughly 50-metre pool for swimmers, reaching a depth of about 2.3 metres. The pools have a sandy beach with a paddling area. The centre also runs a water sports equipment hire - kayaks, pedalos and SUP boards are available, along with volleyball and basketball courts and an outdoor gym. Those wanting to stay longer will find a campsite and caravan site with sanitary facilities. The bathing area is on the list of bathing sites operating within the Regional Water Management Board in Wrocław, kept by Wody Polskie (Polish Waters) - meaning it is designated each year by a municipal council resolution and its water quality is tested during the season.
