An anthropological museum of the University of Wrocław on Kuźnicza street, closed since 2020, with a pre-war collection of skulls gathered by Hermann Klaatsch.
The Museum of Man in Wrocław is an anthropological museum run by the Department of Human Biology at the University of Wrocław. The venue has been closed since 2020, with no reopening date announced.
The permanent exhibition was housed in a former chapel in the Collegium Anthropologicum building on Kuźnicza. It occupied several rooms devoted to primates, human evolution, individual development, bone pathologies and the funerary rites of various cultures.
Part of the collection consists of the pre-war holdings of the Institute of Anthropology, including skulls from Africa and Australia gathered by Hermann Klaatsch. After the war they were supplemented with items from anthropological institutes in Warsaw.
The closure is linked to the renovation of the building on Kuźnicza, which began in 2020. At the time, moving the collection to the Faculty of Biological Sciences complex on Sienkiewicza was considered, but no new opening date for visitors has been given.
Since the Museum of Man is inaccessible, the same part of the Old Town has the Museum of the Lubomirski Princes in Wrocław and the Museum of the University of Wrocław with its scenic Aula Leopoldina, both open. Wrocław's Market Square is also just a few minutes' walk away.
