About Włodzicka Góra Observation Tower

A rebuilt observation tower from 1927 on Włodzicka Góra, the highest peak of the Włodzickie Hills in the Owl Mountains.

The Włodzicka Góra Observation Tower stands on the highest peak of the Włodzickie Hills, near Świerki Dolne, in Kłodzko County. It is one of those Sudetes viewpoints that has been rebuilt after years of neglect, as the original interwar-period structure had been deteriorating for decades.

History of the tower

The tower was built in 1927 to a design by architect Gerhard Ferche, as a slender, square structure with an observation deck covered by a tent-shaped roof. The original building was 14.6 metres tall. Over the following decades after the war the tower fell into ruin.

Reconstruction

The modern reconstruction was carried out by the Nowa Ruda municipality as part of the cross-border Polish-Czech Ridge Trail - Eastern Section programme. The rebuilt tower was officially opened on 19 October 2018. The current structure is 17 metres tall, noticeably taller than the original.

View from the summit

The tower stands at 758 metres above sea level, on the summit of the Włodzickie Hills. The summit itself, Włodzicka Góra, is the destination of many hiking routes in this part of the Owl Mountains, and the tower's deck lets you look out over the surrounding area from above the treetops.

A stop on the Owl Mountains route

The Włodzickie Hills lie on the edge of the Owl Mountains, in an area known for its dense network of hiking trails linking one viewpoint to the next. The tower is therefore best included in a longer route around the surrounding peaks, rather than treated as a single, separate destination.

Nearby on the trail

Włodzicka Góra lies on a route linking several other viewpoints of the region, including Wielka Sowa and Mała Sowa. Nearby is also the Owl Mountains Landscape Park, and in Nowa Ruda, to which the area administratively belongs, you can visit the Mining Museum in Nowa Ruda.
