Cabaret and stand-up in Wrocław and Lower Silesia: find the clubs, halls and cultural centres, and see how to buy a ticket for a funny night out.

This page gathers evenings built around laughter: cabaret programmes, stand-up, open mic nights and stage comedies. Theatre and concerts have their own categories, so here you mostly choose by venue. The calendar above shows what is on sale right now, and the text below explains which stages come up most often in this category.

Where to see cabaret and stand-up in Wrocław?

The biggest names usually play large halls, while stand-up and open mic nights tend to happen in clubs. In Wrocław the category regularly features Klub Wędrówki, Czeski Film, Dziady i Koktajle, the concert hall of Radio Wrocław and the Nowy Pafawag culture centre.

If you want an intimate evening where the comedian stands close to the audience, start with the clubs. If you prefer a full cabaret programme with proper sound and a big crowd, look at the halls and concert venues. The size of the stage changes the style of the show more than you might expect: a club means more conversation with the audience, a hall means more prepared material.

One venue deserves a separate mention: Centennial Hall in the Biskupin district. Shows take place both in the main hall and in the Auditorium room. It is a reinforced concrete building on the UNESCO World Heritage list, designed by Max Berg. When it was built, it had the largest reinforced concrete dome in the world, and the interior holds up to ten thousand people. For a big cabaret night, it is a place that is a reason to go out in itself.

  • Clubs and pubs: stand-up, open mic, smaller programmes.
  • Concert halls and culture centres: cabaret programmes with well-known groups.
  • Large event halls: the biggest shows and evenings with several acts.

What is the difference between cabaret, stand-up and open mic?

Cabaret usually means a troupe and a programme made of sketches, which returns on several dates under one name. Stand-up is one comedian and his or her monologue. Open mic is an evening where several performers go on stage one after another, often with a host.

These words appear in the event titles in the calendar, so you can quickly tell what you are buying. Look for a note about a new programme: cabaret groups play the same show in many towns and on many dates, so if you miss it in one town, you can often catch it in a neighbouring one.

The category also includes mixed evenings: stage comedy, a stand-up programme for several people on stage, a show in Spanish, or a night hosted by two people. That is a good sign if you want to try something different from the classic television cabaret.

If you do not know where to start, pick an open mic. Many comedians appear in short sets, so after a single evening you know which style suits you, and only then do you need to buy a ticket for a longer solo programme.

Cabaret outside Wrocław: which towns have their own stages?

Lower Silesia has a dense network of culture centres and clubs that regularly host performances. Wrocław dominates, but next in the listings come Legnica, Jelenia Góra, Oława and Lubin, followed by Oleśnica, Kłodzko, Świdnica, Zgorzelec, Trzebnica and Wałbrzych.

In Legnica, check Pub Pan-Da and the Legnica Culture Centre, and see the full set of events on the page for events in Legnica. In Jelenia Góra, shows take place at Klub Kwadrat and the Jelenia Góra Culture Centre, and the page for events in Jelenia Góra lists the evenings. In Lubin, cabaret plays at Ave Cezar and at the Muza culture centre, and you can see the whole picture in the section for events in Lubin.

In Oława, performances are hosted by the Centre of Art and the Odra European Cooperation Centre; read more on the page for events in Oława. In Wałbrzych, the stage is the Stara Kopalnia Science and Art Centre, a revitalised former Julia coal mine that now houses an industrial museum, a ceramics studio and a contemporary art gallery. The town has its own calendar: events in Wałbrzych.

Cabaret also reaches the Kłodzko Culture Centre, an assembly hall at a secondary school in Świdnica, Jack Pub in Oleśnica, the municipal culture house in Zgorzelec, the culture centres in Brzeg Dolny, Strzelin, Bogatynia and Jawor, and the Municipal Cultural Centre in Głogów. The last one has a main hall in its Culture Centre, a smaller club stage for intimate events and a theatre with its own auditorium.

How to combine a funny night with other places in Wrocław?

The simplest plan is dinner and cabaret in the same area, or a walk before the show. If your evening falls in the centre, look around the theatre buildings. Both a historic opera house and a modern concert hall are within walking distance of other places worth a stop.

Wrocław Opera stands in a historic building on Świdnicka street that burned down twice and was rebuilt twice, and the National Forum of Music on Plac Wolności is one of the largest concert venues in Europe.

For the day after the show you can plan something calmer. The Polish Theatre in Wrocław plays on several stages in a historic building originally erected as an operetta house, and its reinforced concrete structure later influenced the construction of Centennial Hall. The Wrocław Puppet Theatre on Plac Teatralny has a repertoire for children, teenagers and adults, and the Henryk Tomaszewski Pantomime Theatre in the Borek district is devoted entirely to the art of mime.

When the weather is bad, choose places under a roof. All the theatre stages in the region are collected on the page for theatre and opera, and if you would like a quiet afternoon before the show, our database also includes libraries, such as the Mediateka on Plac Teatralny.

How to plan a cabaret night in a smaller town?

Start with the venue name next to the event. Culture centres often have several rooms, and the same institution may appear once as the centre and once with the name of a particular room, so look at the whole picture when you check the programme.

Examples are the Muza culture centre in Lubin with its large and small halls, or the Odra European Cooperation Centre in Oława, which has separate rooms for different events.

Then check what the evening is like. In small towns cabaret is often played in a club or pub, such as Jack Pub in Oleśnica, Pub Pan-Da in Legnica or Ave Cezar in Lubin, while a culture centre follows different habits than a hall. If you travel from another town, plan the trip so that you do not rush through the last minutes of the show, and look at the town page, where you will also see other events on the same evening.

How to buy a cabaret ticket and not miss the date?

The "Buy ticket" button next to an event leads to a ticketing service, usually KupBilecik or Bilety24. You pay the ticket seller, not our portal, and that is also where you will see the purchase terms and the way the ticket is delivered.

Cabaret programmes return on many dates, and the titles even include notes about a further date. If the first date is sold out, check the next one in the same town or the same programme in a neighbouring town. It is also a good habit to look at the calendar on the day you go, to make sure nothing has changed.

Open mics and stand-up in clubs often follow simpler rules than large halls, so before you leave, open the event page and read the description. If a ticket is not needed, or is sold at the door, you will see it there.

What else is in the events calendar?

If cabaret does not work out, go back to the events calendar and switch the category. Dramas are in theatre, concerts and recitals in music, and screenings in cinema. Each category has its own list of venues and towns, so you can quickly compare what is happening near you.

Going with the whole family? Open events for children. Cabaret shows are usually aimed at adults, so younger viewers are better served by puppet shows, concerts and workshops.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find stand-up and open mic in Wrocław?

Most often in clubs such as Klub Wędrówki, Czeski Film and Dziady i Koktajle. Open the calendar, choose the cabaret category and then the city of Wrocław to see the current list.

Is cabaret only played in Wrocław?

No. The category also includes Legnica, Jelenia Góra, Oława, Lubin, Wałbrzych, Kłodzko, Świdnica, Zgorzelec and many smaller towns. A programme from one tour often visits several of them.

How do I buy a ticket for an event listed here?

Open the event page and click "Buy ticket". The button takes you to KupBilecik or Bilety24, where you finish the purchase.

Can I take a teenager to a cabaret show?

It depends on the event description and the organiser. If the event page has no information about an age limit, ask the ticket seller or the venue where the show takes place.

Where can I find events other than cabaret?

In the main events calendar and in the categories theatre, music, cinema and for children. Each of them has its own list of stages and towns.
