Events in Legnica: cabaret, stand-up, Kino Piast, concerts and theatre, plus ideas for a walk around town before an evening out.
In Legnica cabaret takes up the most space in the calendar, and next to it come theatre, music and cinema. The main addresses are the Legnica Culture Centre, Kino Piast, the clubs Pan-Da and Spiżarnia, and the Avatar Theatre. Below we describe how to choose a venue, what to see in the centre and how to plan an evening with or without children.
This is the strongest category in the town. Evenings of laughter take place in Pub Pan-Da, in the Legnica Culture Centre and in other places that appear in the calendar as separate venues. A pub wins with an intimate atmosphere, while the culture centre offers a bigger hall and a programme with more spectacle.
When choosing a cabaret, look at the note in the title: new programme, stand-up or open mic. It helps you work out whether you are going to a troupe with sketches or to a solo comedian. You will find the list of shows across the region in the cabaret category, and when the first date is sold out, look for the next one in a neighbouring town.
Theatre is represented in the calendar by the Avatar Theatre, and plays and concerts are also hosted by the Legnica Culture Centre. The list of venues also shows the Spiżarnia club, the OSiR sports hall, the assembly hall of the PWSZ college and a venue marked LSSE. So always check the address next to the event and only then buy a ticket.
The cinema has its own address: Kino Piast. If you look for screenings in other towns, open the cinema category. Plays from across the region are in the theatre category, and concerts in music.
The centre of Legnica is worth covering on foot. The Market Square is a rectangular square divided into the Large and the Small Market, and within it stand the Herring Houses, a group of eight historic Renaissance and Neoclassical townhouses next to the Old Town Hall.
On the square there is also the sculpture Julek, showing a boy with a school bag, by Edward Mirowski.
Next to the square is the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, a Gothic church of the Legnica diocese from the fourteenth century, with two towers, a Renaissance pulpit and a Baroque high altar. On Plac Katedralny the Art Gallery shows paintings, artistic jewellery and photography, and entry is free.
The history of the Piasts is a separate path. The Piast Castle is one of the oldest castles in Poland, a branch of the Copper Museum, with relics of a Romanesque chapel and two medieval towers. The Copper Museum is the only museum in Poland devoted to copper and the history of Legnica, in a Baroque building of the former curia of the abbots of Lubiąż. The Mausoleum of the Silesian Piasts is a Baroque burial chapel of the dukes of Legnica and Brzeg, a place of remembrance that is visited in quiet.
If you want to see as much as possible in a few hours before an evening out, walk through the centre in this order:
The route makes sense because most points lie in the centre, and after leaving the last one you can go straight to the event. If you visit in winter or in the rain, limit yourself to the interiors: the gallery, the museum and the castle.
Before an evening event you can stroll through the Municipal Park, the oldest and largest park in town. It is a calm place to spend the hour before an event, whatever the season, with space for children to run and for adults to talk.
It has several dozen hectares of greenery in the centre of town, and within its borders there are the Palm House, the Summer Theatre and the Goat Pond. In the south-western part of town you will find the Lasek Złotoryjski, a historic forest park and one of the largest wooded areas within the borders of Legnica.
If the weather is good, it is a good base for a family afternoon before a screening or a play. When it rains, choose a museum or a gallery. We collected everything on the page for attractions in Legnica.
The youngest will find indoor places in Legnica. Jump Heaven on Fabryczna street is a trampoline park with an obstacle course, a climbing wall and jumping zones. Xtreme KiDS in Galeria Gwiezdna is a chain play centre for children up to the age of twelve, linked to the Xtreme Fitness club.
We collected events for the youngest in the category for children. Even if there is nothing in Legnica itself at the moment, this category will show plays, concerts and classes in nearby towns.
The "Buy ticket" button next to an event leads to KupBilecik or Bilety24, where you finish the purchase. Before you pay, check the venue name, because the Legnica calendar contains clubs, halls and a college assembly hall. You can see the whole regional offer in the main events calendar.
If you go to a cabaret that returns on further dates, look at several dates at once and choose the one that fits your day. For an evening in a club, read the event description, because that is where the organiser writes the information about entry and the start time.
