Events in Jelenia Góra: concerts at the philharmonic hall, plays, cabaret and screenings at Kino Lot, plus ideas for a walk before the evening.
Jelenia Góra is one of the towns in the region where the events calendar is unusually varied. Besides concerts and plays you will find cabaret, cinema, dance and classes for children. Below we describe where things happen, how to combine an event with sightseeing in the town and how to buy a ticket.
Music has the biggest share in the calendar, and its main address is the Lower Silesian Philharmonic. The list of venues shows two concert halls: one named after Stefan Strahl and one named after Ludomir Różycki. Besides the philharmonic, concerts are organised by the Jelenia Góra Culture Centre, and larger events go to the Sports and Entertainment Hall.
If you prefer an intimate atmosphere, check Klub Kwadrat. It is a place where cabaret, among other things, appears. The Mercure Jelenia Góra hotel is listed in the calendar as a separate venue, so for events under its name check the description to see which room the evening takes place in.
Before you choose a ticket, look at the name of the hall. The same philharmonic has more than one stage, and the hall decides the layout of the audience and the character of the evening. A detailed list of upcoming concerts is on the page for the music category.
Dramatic theatre has a long tradition in Jelenia Góra. The Cyprian Kamil Norwid Theatre has worked in an Art Nouveau building on Aleja Wojska Polskiego since the beginning of the twentieth century and has carried the poet's name since the nineteen-seventies.
It is one of the oldest working dramatic theatres in Lower Silesia, in which the building has served the stage without a break, even though names and state affiliation changed.
Next to it, check the Zdrojowy Animation Theatre, a stage for younger viewers and families. Animation theatre is a form in which puppets and objects appear on stage beside actors, so it is often a good choice for a first theatre trip with a child.
Cabaret plays in town regularly, mainly at Klub Kwadrat and at the Jelenia Góra Culture Centre. You will find the full list of comedians' shows in the cabaret category, and theatre performances across the region in the theatre category.
Screenings take place at Kino Lot, which appears in the calendar under its own name. When choosing a screening, look at the name of the venue and the hour, not only at the title. In the cinema category you will also see screenings from other towns in the region, if you plan a trip.
For family films, check whether the screening is dubbed. The information is in the title. When you have no idea for the evening, the cinema after a walk around the centre is a calm option that is easy to plan a few hours ahead.
The town has several districts with their own monuments, so you can arrive early for an event. In the centre stands the castle gate tower, the only surviving part of the medieval town gate, now a viewing platform, and the Wojanów Gate, a Baroque town gate built on the site of an earlier Gothic one.
In Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój you can see the Norwegian Park with its wooden Norwegian Pavilion, the Schaffgotsch Palace (it is not open for regular visits, so you admire it from outside), the Church of St John the Baptist and the Natural History Museum with the collection of the Schaffgotsch family, housed in a former Cistercian provostry building.
For people who like walking in the mountains there is Chojnik Castle, a Gothic ruin on a hilltop in the Karkonosze National Park, and the Chojnik mountain itself with its marked trails. Add to this the Sobieszów Palace, now an educational centre of the national park, and the Gerhart Hauptmann House in Jagniątków. All the town's attractions are collected on the page for attractions in Jelenia Góra.
The Zdrojowy Animation Theatre is a natural choice for the youngest, and the category events for children also shows classes and concerts in other towns. When it rains, children can go to Wild Jump, an indoor trampoline park with a climbing wall and an obstacle course. On a sunny day families choose Chojnik or a walk around Cieplice.
If you want to spend the weekend more widely, look at the neighbouring mountain towns: Karpacz and Szklarska Poręba, which have their own sets of attractions.
The "Buy ticket" button next to an event leads to KupBilecik or Bilety24, where you finish the purchase. Information about the place, the hour and the room is on the event page, so look at the calendar once more before you leave. The whole set of events in the region is in the main calendar.
If you do not know what to choose, set the town of Jelenia Góra in the calendar and browse the categories one by one: first music, because it dominates, then theatre and cabaret. Such a check takes a few minutes, and it lets you compare venue names and choose the one closest to where you stay or park.
