Events in Oława: cinema listings, plays, concerts and cabaret at the Odra centre and the Centre of Art, plus ideas for free time in town.
Oława has a compact calendar built on two cultural institutions: the Odra European Cooperation Centre and the Centre of Art in Oława. Most events take place there, from film screenings through plays and concerts to cabaret and classes for children. Below we explain how to find your way around and what to add to your plan besides the outing itself.
Cinema is the biggest part of the calendar in Oława. Screenings take place at the Odra European Cooperation Centre, which has rooms marked as first and second, and events are also entered under the general name of the centre. When you buy a ticket, check in the description which room hosts the screening, because that decides where you are going.
If you plan a film for a child, look for the note about dubbing in the title. For older viewers the subtitled versions appear more often. Oława is one of the towns with an unusually large number of screenings in the cinema category, so you have a chance to choose a date that fits your evening, instead of fitting your evening to the date.
If a film sold out in Oława, switch the town in the calendar and check the neighbouring centres. A good direction is Lubin, which has its own events page, or Wrocław if you can get there.
Besides films, the calendar has plays, concerts and cabaret. You will find them at the Odra centre and at the Centre of Art in Oława, which works at two addresses: as branch number one and as branch number two, a culture centre. The names differ in the calendar, but they denote parts of one institution.
When choosing an evening, start with the category. In theatre you check guest performances, in music concerts, and in cabaret evenings of laughter, which often visit other towns of the region too. If the programme from Oława has already ended, look for the next date in a neighbouring town.
The most important monument is the Sobieski Castle on Plac Zamkowy, Renaissance and Baroque, built from the sixteenth to the seventeenth century. Today it houses the Town Hall, so treat it as a stop on a walk, not as a museum.
Motoring fans should check the WENA Motoring Museum, a private institution with hundreds of vehicles, aircraft and motorcycles, and exhibitions from the communist era. For those interested in sacred architecture there are two churches: the postmodern Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Queen in the Nowy Otok estate and the former Church of St Joseph, destroyed by fire and currently closed, so do not plan a visit inside.
For book lovers there is the County and Town Public Library with fiction for adults and young people and school reading lists.
If you come for an evening screening or a play, you can build the whole day from places that lie in one town. Below is a sample order, which you can change according to the season and the age of the group.
You can reverse the order if you prefer a morning screening for children and a rest at the pool in the afternoon. It is important to leave time between the points for a meal and a short break, because a museum visit, a pool and a screening together are a lot of stimulation for younger participants.
Oława has several indoor places for children, so the plan works whatever the weather. Edu-Point Play Room is on the third floor of Galeria Oławska and offers blocks, a slide, trampolines and a workshop zone. It is a good base for a rainy day, because all the play takes place under a roof in a shopping centre.
Zamkowa Kraina is decorated in a castle style and accepts both individual visits and birthday parties. BabyBoom has a cafe for parents, and Jump 4U is a trampoline park in a hall with a Ninja zone and classes for children and adults.
After the event you may need rest: Termy Jakuba is a municipal pool complex with an indoor pool, a paddling pool, a jacuzzi, a slide and a sauna area, and in summer an outdoor pool. Events meant for the youngest are in the category for children.
The "Buy ticket" button next to an event leads to KupBilecik or Bilety24, where you finish the purchase. Before you buy, check the room and address, especially if a centre is entered under several names. You can see the whole regional offer in the main calendar.
An evening in Oława can follow a fixed pattern: an afternoon at the pool or in a play centre, then a screening or a play. If you come from outside town, start with the Sobieski Castle and then go to the event. When the Oława calendar does not have what you look for, change the town and check the neighbouring centres: Legnica, Lubin or Wrocław.
Screenings are shown by the Odra European Cooperation Centre in two rooms. Check the room name in the event description.
