Miłków near Karpacz: a parrot house, an indoor shooting range in a former factory and wooded peaks of the Karkonosze Foothills.
What to do in Miłków when the weather is poor?
The Parrot House Karpacz has two rooms where exotic parrots fly freely, plus a separate feeding area. You can put a bird on your shoulder, feed it and take a photo. Before you enter, take off your jewellery and avoid clothes with beads, buttons, zips or sequins, which may attract the birds. Lockers and protective footwear are available. Parrots must not be stroked. It is a good goal for families.
The second indoor idea is the shooting range in the Old Factory. It sits in an adapted former factory building and runs all year. It takes beginners and advanced shooters, children can shoot from the age of seven, and no licence is needed, because instructors handle the formalities. Participants get ear and eye protection. Alcohol is banned on site.
Which peak to choose for a walk?
Strzelec is 751 m above sea level and lies on a side ridge running off Czoło, between Karpacz and Miłków. It is built of Karkonosze granite and entirely forested, with no bare summit areas. Strzelczyk is 745 m and used to carry the German name Koppenhübel. The red trail from Karpacz to Grabowiec skirts the summit on its western side, so mostly people who want to leave the main route come up. Both peaks carry the "Free", "Nature" and "Solo" tags, but do not count on views from the top, because forest covers the panorama.
