What to see in the centre of Wołów?
Wołów Castle is a Piast-era building of the 17th to 19th centuries, built of brick on Piastowski Square and entered in the register of monuments. Today it houses the District Office, but the castle tower is open to visitors during office hours, with a panorama of Wołów and the surroundings from the top. From the castle you can walk to the Benedictine convent at Poznańska 13, a complex of a convent house and a chapel dating to 1884. The building began as a Catholic foundation, the chapel was added in the early 1930s, and from 1898 to 1945 Borromean sisters lived here. The chapel of St Joseph is open to residents. After the war the building stood empty until 1958, when Armenian Benedictine nuns moved in, and in 1961 the community adopted the Latin rite. The sisters live in enclosure, so keep quiet.
