Żmigród on the Barycz: castle ruins with a Gothic tower, the summer Aquagród pool and a working Orthodox church. See what to plan.
What is left of the castle in Żmigród?
Żmigród Castle consists of the ruins of a Baroque palace and a well-preserved Gothic residential tower in a park on the Barycz river. The first mention of the castle dates from 1296, when it was still a timber stronghold. What remains today is the result of rebuilding over several centuries, and in 1813 the place gained significance as a meeting point of rulers. The park by the river suits a calm walk and carries the "Architecture", "Solo" and "Castles" tags.
Where to swim and play in summer?
Aquagród on Sportowa Street is a seasonal outdoor pool that runs only in the summer months. It has a water slide, offers individual and group swimming lessons, and a deckchair rental operates on site. You can spend a day by the water without your own gear. Outside the season the site is closed, so build a summer plan around it and pick another stop from the list in winter. The place carries the "For families" and "Water park" tags, so it works well with children.
Which places of culture and faith are in Żmigród?
The Church of St George on Kościuszki Street is a working Orthodox church. It sits in an ordinary 19th-century residential building whose ground floor was adapted for services after 1973. If you want to go in, respect the fact that it is in use. For rain, check the A. Kamiński Municipal and Municipality Public Library at Wrocławska 12, in the building of the Culture Facilities Complex. It is the municipality's main library, serving the town together with four village branches.
A place of remembrance is the Jewish cemetery on Willowa Street, founded in 1822. The site is unfenced and ruined, and no gravestones remain, so do not treat it as a walking goal.
From Żmigród it is close to Trzebnica and Oborniki Śląskie.
