Attractions in Chojnów: a museum in the Piast castle, a square with a fountain, Piastowski Park and a Gothic tower. See what to visit in a day.

What to see in Chojnów on and around the square?

Start in the centre, because most places are close together. The Weaver's Fountain is a monument-fountain with a figure of a weaver standing in a water basin, in the very middle of the square among townhouses. You can look at it without restrictions, and in our list it carries the tags "Architektura" (architecture) and "Dla par" (for couples).

Right by the square stands the Weavers' Tower, Gothic, made of brick, from the first half of the 15th century, at ulica Tkacka 16. It used to be part of the town's defensive walls and is entered in the register of monuments. Not far away is the Regional Museum in Chojnów in the castle of the Piasts of Legnica and Brzeg, built in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 16th. The museum has been in the castle since 1933, and the institution goes back to 1903, when it was decided to create a Museum of Antiquities. The collection has over 1,140 exhibits of archaeology, history and art. A good rainy-day option.

Where to take a walk in Chojnów?

Piastowski Park lies a few hundred metres from the square, on Chmielowe Hill in the southern part of town. It is the largest wooded recreation area in Chojnów, laid out in 1885 to a design by Eduard Petzold, when the outdated town fortifications were demolished. It has a water tower and a sledding track. Entry is free.

The route square, tower, museum, park makes a full, relaxed walk around town and needs no car.

What to do with kids and when it rains?

Hulanka is a play centre at ulica Tadeusza Kościuszki 28, near Piastowski Park and the museum. It has play installations with a monkey jungle and a ball pool, a separate zone for the youngest, developmental classes for children aged 0 to 9 and a mini café for parents. Birthday parties can be held here too.

For older visitors there is Mawi-Paintball, a paintball field in Biskupin near Rokitka, by the road from Chojnów to Chocianów. The company organises games for individuals and groups, also offers quad rides, and you can light a campfire on the field. It is outside town, so you will need transport. A calmer rainy-day alternative is the Municipal Public Library at plac Zamkowy, with a digital catalogue, access to Legimi, ACADEMICA and IBUK Libra, plus exhibitions and discussion clubs.

How to visit the memorial places?

The Jewish cemetery in Chojnów is a former necropolis of the local Jewish community, today inactive and kept as a place of remembrance. The town became its owner in January 1944. Visit it with respect, as with any cemetery. For further trip ideas, look to nearby Legnickie Pole.
