Międzygórze attractions: a waterfall, a fairy-tale sculpture garden and peaks of the Śnieżnik Massif right above the village. Here is where to start.
What should you see first in Międzygórze?
Begin with two spots close to the centre. Wilczka Waterfall sits in a landscape nature reserve and drops 22 metres, the second largest waterfall in the Polish Sudetes. The reserve, in the Bystrzyca Kłodzka municipality, was created in 1958 and covers a stretch of the stream valley just below the village centre, with part of the gorge. In winter, when frost holds the falling water, it turns into an ice fall. The second stop is the Fairy-Tale Garden, a small open-air display of wooden sculptures of characters from tales and legends, among them Liczyrzepa, the Spirit of the Mountains. The forester Izydor Kriesten carved them from natural roots and trunks. The garden covers a quarter of a hectare at about 700-710 m above sea level and has long been one of the symbols of the village.
The garden is tagged for families and rainy days, so it works well with children even when the weather turns.
Which peaks make a good walk?
The village lies at the foot of the Śnieżnik Massif (Masyw Śnieżnika), and most targets here are mountains. The highest on this list is Średniak at 1210 m above sea level, on the ridge running west from Śnieżnik, separated from it by the Śnieżnik Pass. Jaworowa Kopa (1138 m) lies on the way to Śnieżnik, and its neighbour Smrekowiec (1123 m) stands within the Śnieżnik Landscape Park. In German times it was called Heuboden.
Lower summits are calmer and easier to combine with other stops of the day. Czarna Kopa is 879 m, sits on the western ridge of Śnieżnik and is covered in spruce forest. Lesieniec (868 m) is a wooded ridge without rocks, reached by a green and a blue marked trail. Toczek (713 m) has rock formations called the Rock Gate and the Tower, plus trails to Śnieżnik and Iglica. Góra Modrzewiowa (703 m) is a narrow ridge above the Nysa gorge, with a steep, craggy western slope and a gentler eastern side. Check trail conditions before you set off.
