Things to do in Zapusta: the artificial ruins of Rajsko Castle above the Kwisa, Lake Złotnickie with beaches and a rural crafts museum.
Rajsko Castle was never a real castle. It is an artificial ruin on the high right bank of the Kwisa river, built in 1875-1878 on the idea of Alexander von Minutoli, owner of nearby Biedrzychowice. Architectural details from the ruins of local churches and palaces were reused in it. The stone structure was rebuilt in the 21st century and is on the register of monuments. It stands in Olszyna municipality.
Lake Złotnickie is a reservoir on the Kwisa between Gryfów Śląski and Leśna. It covers about 120 hectares, is up to 22 metres deep and dates from 1924. The shore is known for beaches and campsites, so it is one of the more popular spots for a day by the water in this part of the region.
The Museum of Rural Technology and Crafts is a private venue in a 19th-century half-timbered house. It shows the story of villages in the Izera Foothills: farm machines and tools, irons, spinning wheels, lamps, militaria, parts of old clothing and regional items. Visits are by prior arrangement, so call before you come. A good plan for a rainy day.
