Things to do in Żarów: Lake Kryształ in a former pit, a bowling alley with a pizzeria and a church from 1909. See what to pick for a free day.

Why is it called Lake Kryształ?

Lake Kryształ (Crystal Lake), also known as Zalew Andrzej, lies between Żarów and Mrowiny, where the Owl Mountains meet the Silesian Lowland. It owes its name to unusually clear water, with visibility of several metres below the surface. The lake formed when the pit of the former Andrzej kaolin mine, working here since at least 1843, was flooded.

Where can you play in Żarów in the evening?

PARKOWA bowling&pizza at 3 Zamkowa Street combines a bowling alley, billiard tables and a pizzeria. You can bowl or play pool and eat on site, so it is a good evening plan, also when it rains. The venue works as a mix of restaurant and games room, so it suits both a meal and an evening out with friends.

Which monument in Żarów should you see?

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from 1909 is the parish church of the Żarów deanery in the Świdnica diocese. It is about half a kilometre from the bowling alley, so the two are easy to combine on one walk. Within a few kilometres of the church you will also find Piotrowice Świdnickie Castle, Gruszów Palace and the Railway Museum in Silesia, should you want a longer trip.
