hilltop castle ruins with a window from 1289-1290, the oldest surviving in Poland, and the round Beak Tower

Bolków: castle ruins above the Nysa Szalona, a viewing terrace with a telescope and a granite fountain of 1858. Plan a walk around town.

What to see at Bolków Castle?

Bolków Castle is the ruin of a medieval upland castle on Castle Hill, which rises 396 m above sea level. On the Nysa Szalona side the slope breaks off in a steep cliff. You see the oldest preserved window in Poland and the round Dziobowa Tower. The place carries the "For couples", "For families", "Rainy day" and "Solo" tags, so it suits a trip in any company.

Where to look at the town from?

The Stary Kamieniołom viewpoint lies by provincial road 333 from Bolków towards Kaczorów, within the Land of Extinct Volcanoes Geopark. A lime avenue leads from the car park, and the walk takes about 10 minutes. On top stands a terrace with a free telescope, and in good visibility you can see Bolków Castle from it.

What else to know in town?

The Angel Fountain stands on the square between the church and the town hall. It is an oval fountain of grey granite from 1858. Originally a tin figure of a boy reading the Bible stood on it, and today there is a sandstone replica. For shooting fans there is the sports shooting range of the LOK Ignis Shooting Club on Ludowa Street, where open training sessions take place on selected days after prior registration.

Further on lie Jawor, Kaczorów and Nowa Wieś Wielka.
