Things to do in Bogatynia: the ruins of Ronow Castle, a stone viaduct over the Lusatian Neisse, a play centre, a shooting range and a library.
Ronow Castle is the ruin of a medieval stronghold on a hill north of Trzciniec, a district of Bogatynia, near the right bank of the Lusatian Neisse. The first mention dates from 1262 and names the burgrave Konrad of Ronow. By the end of the 14th century it had become the seat of a robber knight, and earlier it controlled the trade route from Prague to Zgorzelec. In January 1399 troops of the Six Cities League captured it, and the stronghold was destroyed and never rebuilt.
The railway viaduct in Żytawa is a stone bridge over the Lusatian Neisse on line no. 346, which runs from Zittau through Hrádek nad Nisou to Liberec. The single-track bridge was built in 1853-1859 and is 741 metres long and 18 metres high. It lies mainly on the German side, but is linked to the Bogatynia municipality, through which the same line runs for about three kilometres near Porajów. The portal marks it as a place for couples and a technical monument.
Bawialnia Bogatynia is a play centre at ulica Chopina 11E, a winner of the Orły Branży Dziecięcej ranking in 2025 and 2026. The sources give no exact offer or opening hours, so call before your visit. About 200 metres away stands a library, which makes an afternoon easy to plan.
At the Public Library of the Town and Municipality of Bogatynia, named after Polish Nobel Laureates, you will find a lending desk, a reading room and a section for children and young people. It also has branches in Zatonie, Porajów and Działoszyn, which is unusual in the region.
The Sports Shooting Range on ulica Polna belongs to the Centre of Sport and Recreation and focuses on air guns. Residents aged 12 and over can use it without a firearms licence, under the supervision of an adult, and classes are led by a sports shooting instructor. It is a different venue from club ranges with live ammunition, so it suits a first contact with shooting.
