Kunice near Legnica: the largest lake of the Legnica Lake District, a peat bog reserve and a stable offering rides by the water.
Lake Kunickie covers about 95 hectares and is the largest lake of the Legnica Lake District, a few kilometres from Legnica. The water is over a kilometre long and about as wide, and its depth is estimated at around 7 metres. The Silesian geographer Mikołaj Henel described it as early as 1613. On the eastern shore lies the small Gull Island (Mewia Wyspa), where colonies of gulls once nested.
The Torfowisko Kunickie nature reserve covers 11.83 hectares of forest and low peat bog formed as a former lake grew shallow. Surveys recorded 558 plant species. It was protected from 1923 to the end of the war and again from 1996. Entry is free. The reserve lies west of the village buildings.
Kunice Stable on ulica Plażowa stands right by the lake. Beginners ride on a lunge line, more advanced riders have separate lessons, and you can choose rides around the lake or a carriage ride through the area. The entrance to the stable grounds is adapted for wheelchair users.
Legnica with its Piast Castle lies a few kilometres away. Neighbouring pages are Legnickie Pole and Chojnów.
