Gorzeszów attractions: the Devil's Club rock, the Dwarfs' Boulders reserve and the Czerep peak. Three free stops for fans of rocks and nature.
The Devil's Club (Diabelska Maczuga), also called the Devil's Rock, is a rock pillar about 8 metres tall, shaped by erosion from Cretaceous sandstone. An inscription "1813-1913" on the rock marks the hundredth anniversary of the Prussian victory over Napoleon's troops at the Battle of the Nations. Lone formations like this appear in many places across the Sudetes.
The Dwarfs' Boulders nature reserve lies in Zawory, about two kilometres south-west of Gorzeszów, in the north-western part of the Table Mountains. It covers 9.04 hectares on a slope above the Jawiszówka stream and was created in 1970. It protects natural weathering forms of Upper Cretaceous sandstone and rare plants. It is a reserve of inanimate nature, so the rocks are the main attraction.
Czerep is 581-582 m high and lies in the southern part of the Krzeszów Hills, in the Kamienna Góra Basin. It is built of Upper Cretaceous glauconitic sandstone and mudstone. Spruce forest covers the summit, with meadows lower down. It also works as a solo walk.
The Cistercian Abbey in Krzeszów lies a few kilometres away. For a wider plan, use the pages for Kamienna Góra, Lubawka, Błażejów, Chełmsko Śląskie and Jarkowice.
