In Węgliniec you can visit a museum in two freight wagons, two churches and the smallest nature reserve in Lower Silesia.

What is the museum in wagons?

The Museum of the Eastern Borderlands stands in the town park on Wolności Street. It was set up in 2001: two freight wagons were placed on 30 metres of track and filled with keepsakes of people resettled from the south-eastern borderlands. A local association runs it, not a public institution. It is a good place for a rainy day.

Which church in Węgliniec should you see?

The Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland dates from 1878 and was originally Protestant. It has been Catholic since 1947, and locals call it the railway church because railway workers mainly looked after it. The other is the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Kościuszki Street: neo-Romanesque, brick, finished in 1930. The interior has three bays, and above the entrance rises a tower with a four-faced clock.

Where is the smallest reserve in Lower Silesia?

The Torfowisko pod Węglińcem peat bog is only 1.35 hectares and lies about 350 metres north of the railway station. It was created in 1959 to protect a transitional bog and a relict stand of bog pine. Entry is free.
