Things to do in Staniszów: Henry's Castle as an artificial ruin, Grodna hill with views and Sosnówka Reservoir facing Śnieżka.
Grodna is 506 m above sea level and the highest peak of the Łomnica Hills. On top stand ruins in a pseudo-Gothic style, but they are not the remains of a medieval castle. The building went up in the first half of the 19th century on the initiative of the von Reuss family as a hunting lodge and an ornamental ruin, a fashionable landscape feature then. Entry is free and it suits a solo walk.
Henry's Castle is the same landmark on Grodna hill: a historic hunting castle from 1806, designed from the start to look like an old ruin. It was built of stone and has been on the register of monuments since 2008 under number A/1070. Renovation finished in 2015-2016. For architecture fans it is the most interesting stop in the area.
Sosnówka Reservoir is a large artificial lake in the Jelenia Góra Valley, at the foot of the Karkonosze, between Sosnówka and Marczyce. It was built from 1986 to 2001 on the site of former fish ponds. From the shores and nearby hills you can see the Śnieżka massif, and a walking path runs around it.
