Things to do in Opawa: Kopczyk, Owczarka and Pańska Góra, three peaks of the Lasocki Ridge in the Karkonosze, with rock outcrops and an old lime kiln.
Which peak near Opawa is the highest?
Owczarka, 796 m above sea level, west of the village. It lies in the southern part of the Lasocki Ridge, running north-east from Kopina. Between Owczarka and Pańska Góra stand two amphibolite rocks called the Golden Gate, and further east the Kolebki, made of Lower Carboniferous conglomerate. The western slopes fall steeply towards the Srebrnik valley.
Where are the Kolebki rocks and the chapel?
On Pańska Góra (756 m), between Opawa and Jarkowice. The Kolebki rocks and a small chapel on the slope are here, but no trail leads to the summit. The northern slopes drop steeply into the Srebrnik valley, the southern ones gently towards Opawa.
What to look for on Kopczyk?
Kopczyk (664 m) stands in an unassuming side ridge between the Opawa valley and the Ostrężnik valley. The slopes have rocks called Co Góra, and west of the summit lie the remains of a lime kiln where lime was once burned from local stone. The rock is greenstone with layers of marble. It is the lowest of the three and the least obvious, but the traces of lime burning give it a character of its own.
All three are free and carry the Solo tag. The full set of summits is on the page for mountains in Opawa. Further away lie Kamienna Góra, Lubawka, Błażejów, Chełmsko Śląskie and Jarkowice.
