Wojcieszów offers the Góra Miłek nature reserve with its purple cyclamen and six peaks of the Kaczawskie Mountains above the town.

What should you see first in Wojcieszów?

Start with the Góra Miłek nature reserve. It is a forest reserve covering almost the whole Miłek hill above Wojcieszów Górny, in the western part of the Eastern Ridge of the Kaczawskie Mountains. It was established on 26 January 1994 and covers 141.35 ha. It protects montane beech forest on limestone and the only site of purple cyclamen in Poland. A rich invertebrate fauna lives here too, including snails and spiders. The aim of protection is to preserve a typical Sudetic fragment of the lower montane belt together with its natural plant communities. The reserve was set up by the Minister of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry, so nature protection rules apply: stay on the paths and do not pick plants.

Which peaks above the town are the highest?

At the top of the list stands Góra Połom (667 m above sea level), a summit rising above Wojcieszów in the Złotoryja district. The sources give no marked trail or viewpoint on it, so use a tourist map of the Kaczawskie Mountains. Next come Marciniec (624 m), a small massif east of the town, Chmielarz (585 m) and Polanka (546.6 m), which has two summits and lies between Chmielarz and Trzciniec. Somewhat lower are Trzciniec (484 m) and Zadora (454 m), whose western slope borders the buildings of Wojcieszów Dolny.

How do you plan a route along the Eastern Ridge?

Marciniec, Chmielarz, Polanka and Trzciniec sit on one ridge that runs from Bukowinka through Rogacz and Dłużek towards Wojcieszów. That makes them easy to link in a single day. On Trzciniec there are the ruins of a seventeenth-century gallows, though they stand on the neighbouring pass, not on the summit itself. Chmielarz has small rocks on its top, and spruce forest covers the summit itself. Farmland stretches below. Trzciniec closes this whole ridge from the east, and the same line of hills leads on to Polanka. Check the trail conditions before you go, because the sources give no marked approach to some of the summits.
