Jawor in the rain means a museum in a monastery, a pool with a slide, a shooting range, a play hall and a library: five places under a roof.
What can you do in Jawor when it rains all day?
Start with the Regional Museum, housed in a former Bernardine monastery complex from the fifteenth century. You will see exhibitions of archaeology, crafts, militaria and sacred art, and you can also visit the castle tower. The museum was founded in 1929 as the Heimatmuseum Jauer, and its first home was a villa donated by Professor Carl Koschwitz. In 1964 the collections moved to the former Bernardine monastery, where they remain.
Where do you go with children, or for sport?
The Słowianka indoor swimming pool at 1 Bolesława Rogatki Street has a 25 by 12.5 metre sports pool with a shallow part for children, a leisure pool with water cannons and a 54-metre slide. For relaxation there are a jacuzzi, a Finnish sauna, an infrared sauna and a salt graduation tower filled with brine from Ciechocinek. For the youngest there is Fiku Miku at 25 Armii Krajowej Street: a play hall with play structures, geared towards birthday parties, with bouncy castles and a 360-degree photo booth for hire. You can also rent the whole hall.
And if you prefer quiet or something unusual?
Choose the Municipal Public Library on plac Seniora. Besides lending, it gives access to Legimi, Ibuk Libra, Polona and Academica, and it organises author meetings, exhibitions and literary evenings, sometimes with live music. For a change there is the Jawor UR Shooting Club. It has an indoor range up to 25 metres for pistols and rifles, courses for beginners under certified instructors, and on-site rental of firearms and ammunition. The open range, up to 100 metres, is outdoors, so in the rain pick the covered one.
