Most free places cluster around the market square. The Holy Trinity Column from 1736 stands on Plac Wolności and is the work of Anton Jörg. You will find the pillory from 1556 on Mały Rynek (the Small Square), and the statue of St John of Nepomuk from 1704 on Plac Szpitalny, by the bridge over the Nysa Kłodzka river.
All three objects are close together, so you can see them on a single walk. You reach each one on foot from the centre, with no reservation or fee. If you want to understand why the pillory has a German inscription on its post and why it was moved, read its page before you set out.
On the hill above the town lies Góra Floriańska, also called Parkowa. The park was laid out in the nineteenth century and renovated in 2020-2022. There are walking paths, stone steps, a viewing area with a spring and lighting. A car park is provided for drivers. A swimming pool operates in the southern part of the park, but check any charges for it on site, because this page is about entering the park.
Higher up, in the Eastern Sudetes, lies the Śnieżnik Kłodzki nature reserve. It covers the highest parts of the Śnieżnik Massif and protects rare plants and mountain insects. Among others, the Sudeten violet and the tall primrose, regarded as a world endemic, grow here. Higher up, the spruce forest gives way to dwarf mountain pine.
Combine the square with the park: begin with the three sculptures in the centre, then climb the hill. For a break, pick the viewing area with the spring. Treat the reserve as a separate trip, because it lies in the mountains and takes more time.
