Bystrzyca Kłodzka Solo: a museum, an underground route, a library and a hilltop park for people who explore on their own.

Where should you go on your own in Bystrzyca Kłodzka?

The best start is the Phillumeny Museum, the only museum in Poland devoted to fire, matches and lighters. It is housed in a former Protestant church on Mały Rynek, and the building itself, a classicist brick structure from 1821-1822, is a listed monument. You can step in without company and you will not slow anyone down, because you look around at your own pace.

The second idea is the Underground Tourist Route beneath the town centre. It leads through renovated cellars of a former brewery and prison on Kupiecka Street and opened in 2023. It is a good choice for a rainy day.

What can you do alone when you want quiet?

For a calm afternoon, choose the Town and Municipality Public Library at Plac Wolności 16. It has operated since 1946 and has a lending desk, a reading room, a department for children and young people, and a regional collection. If you like getting to know a place through local publications, the last department is for you.

For a walk, go to Góra Floriańska. It is a hill with a nineteenth-century park, renovated in 2020-2022, with a viewing area and paths. For historic sites in the centre, pick the houses at Plac Wolności 6-8, three seventeenth-century townhouses that you can view only from the outside, because they are homes. Finally, by the road to Kłodzko stands the chapel of St Francis Xavier from 1681, built after the town survived a plague.

How do you arrange a day on your own?

Start in the morning with the museum, go underground at midday, and in the afternoon choose the park or the chapel. Everything lies close together, so you need no travel plan and no companion to share costs.
