Churches and monasteries in Duszniki-Zdrój: a church in the spa district, a Franciscan monastery from 1925 and a Neo-Romanesque church in Zieleniec.
Which churches can you visit in Duszniki-Zdrój?
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus stands in the spa district, on a hillside terrace. It is a filial church of the parish of St Francis and St Leonard. The decision to build was made in 1897, and construction ran from 1899 to 1902. The interior keeps its original furnishings, including an old stained-glass window in the chancel that echoes the church's dedication.
The parish Church of St Francis and St Leonard with the Franciscan monastery was built in 1925-1926. Architect Alfred Trumpke designed the complex, which served from the start as both a monastery and a holiday house for Franciscans from the whole Silesian province. Inside is a plaque commemorating the victims of the 1998 flood.
What makes the church in Zieleniec stand out?
St Anne's Church in Zieleniec is a Neo-Romanesque filial church from 1904, built of fieldstone, with a sandstone portal. It came about on the initiative of Father Augustyn Grund, parish priest in Zieleniec from 1890 to 1918, and replaced an earlier wooden church from the 18th century. The Archbishop of Prague, Cardinal Leon Skrbeński, consecrated it on 4 October 1904. Outside stand Baroque figures from the 19th century, and a historic cemetery lies beside the ski station.
