Kopaniec solo: five places for a trip on your own, from summits with views to an adit and a gallery. Choose your pace and day.
Where to go alone for views
For a lone hiker Wysoki Kamień is the strongest choice: 1,058 metres, a panorama over the Karkonosze and neighbouring ranges, and a place in the Crown of the Lower Silesian Mountains. You walk up without a ticket and set your own pace. West of the main summit a ridge with three rocky elevations runs on, so even a short walk gives a varied view.
If you prefer less-visited routes, pick Wrzosówka (694 metres) or Jastrzębiec (792 metres). Both peaks are wooded and lie on the Kamienica Ridge, by the blue trail from Świeradów-Zdrój. The sources do not describe these routes in detail, so when alone check the map, the markings and the forecast even more carefully before you go. Wrzosówka is built of gneiss and granite gneiss, and Jastrzębiec lies between Piaszczysta and Gaik.
What to choose if you prefer history or art
The adit of the former pyrite mine dates from the time when the mine operated, between the 16th and the 19th century. Entry is free, although only some corridors are open. The black and yellow trails from Zakręt Śmierci lead there, and the last stretch is a narrow path, so on your own it is better to go in daylight.
The Wysoki Kamień Gallery is a small gallery of local artists, founded in the summer of 2003. You can view works inspired by the village, the surrounding mountains and imagined lands in peace, as it is a place for a rainy day. Check opening hours and how to arrange a visit on the gallery's profile.
Where to look for more ideas
