Free things to do in Kudowa-Zdrój: Błędne Skały, three Table Mountains summits and a bench sculpture in the spa park. A day plan without tickets.
What should you see for free first in Kudowa-Zdrój?
The Błędne Skały (Wandering Rocks) are a labyrinth of sandstone blocks on the Polish-Czech border, in Table Mountains National Park. It covers about 21 hectares, and its highest part reaches 853 m above sea level. The formation grew from sandstone laid down in the Upper Cretaceous, was lifted together with the Sudetes and then carved by erosion. Marked trails run between Kudowa-Zdrój and Karłów, and the nearest village is Bukowina Kłodzka. Świni Grzbiet lies on the south-western side of the rocks, so the two are easy to combine in one trip.
Which summits can you choose without paying?
Skalniak (915 m) is the highest point in this set and lies within the national park. Lower down, 1.8 km north-east of the centre, is Świni Grzbiet (528 m) with a flat top and a winter sports centre at its foot. Bluszczowa Góra (523 m) rises above Czermna by the Polish-Czech border. The two lower ones are built of Upper Cretaceous sandstone, so choose by fitness, not looks. Free attractions in a national park call for respect, so stay on the marked trails.
Is there anything free in town?
Yes, a stroll in the spa park. The Gardener's Bench is a bronze sculpture by the mineral water pump room, showing a seated gardener with a watering can bearing the town's coat of arms. It was made by Jerzy Bokrzycki from Wierzbice and unveiled in mid-September 2010. Nearby are the Interactive Museum of the Kłodzko Land and the Table Mountains National Park Eco-Centre, and a little further the Skull Chapel in Czermna.
