Free things to do in Nowa Ruda: two Włodzickie Hills summits with lookout towers and two cemeteries. A plan for a budget day.
Which free places in Nowa Ruda give you a view?
The best is All Saints Hill in the Włodzickie Hills. The summit stands 648 metres above sea level and has a viewpoint. On top is a stone tower from 1913 in Nowa Ruda-Słupiec, built of red sandstone and about 15 metres tall. Before it, a wooden mini-tower from 1889, only 2.8 metres high, stood here. The stone tower was paid for by the Słupiec section of the Kłodzko Mountain Society.
The second summit is St. Anne's Hill, 647 metres, in the southern part of town. Together with neighbouring Krępiec it forms a dome-shaped ridge. On top stands a stone tower from 1911, built of local sandstone and entered in the register of monuments. Lower down you see a Baroque church of St. Anne from the 17th century and three plague chapels raised after the 1680 epidemic.
How to combine both hills in one day
Start with one tower and keep the other for another trip if the weather turns. Both towers also carry the "Great views" and "For couples" tags, and the hills "Nature" and "Solo", so they suit two people or a walk on your own. For couples there is more on the page Nowa Ruda for couples, and for solo outings use the list of solo places.
How to approach the cemeteries on this list
The municipal cemetery serves burials of residents of the town and surroundings regardless of faith and is run by the local government. Check gate hours and details with the cemetery administration or the town office. The Jewish cemetery is a former kirkut with no visible traces. Sources point to two possible locations, by Kopalniana Street or above Krzywa Street, and work to establish it continues. There is nothing to see, but the place has its history.
When it rains, switch to rainy day ideas, and a wider choice is on the list of the town's attractions and on free places across the region.
