Nowa Ruda for couples: two lookout towers, an underground mine route, an old viaduct and a fountain. Ideas for a day together.
Where to see the town from above together?
The two towers are the best. The tower on All Saints Hill, built in 1913 in Słupiec, is about 15 metres tall and gives a panorama of the Kłodzko Land. The tower on St. Anne's Hill is a listed monument of local red sandstone, one of several such towers in the Central Sudetes. Both also carry the "Free" and "Great views" tags. Pick one for an evening walk and keep the other for the next weekend. The 1913 tower rises on a 648-metre summit, so the view is wide, and its foundation stone was laid on 12 June 1913.
What to do when it rains
Go underground. At the Mining Museum you take the guided Underground Tourist Route, and the tour ends with a ride on a historic mining train. The museum works in a former mine and also has a surface exhibition on local coal mining. For a quieter hour there is the Municipal Public Library, working since 1949 at Bohaterów Getta 10, in a former brewery building from around 1880. It runs three branches, and the building is one of the few industrial sites in town that now serve culture after adaptation. A good spot to catch your breath between walks, especially if the two of you prefer quiet to crowds, and an easy plan B for a day with changing weather.
What to see on a stroll through town
On the market square stands a fountain from 1909 with a bronze baptism scene. The steel spans of the viaduct over the Woliborka from 1879-1880 became the Black Bridge for the locals. On Loretańska Street you will find the Baroque Marian Column from 1712, but remember it stands at the entrance to the municipal cemetery.
All these places carry the "For couples" tag. Also look at places with character and the page Nowa Ruda attractions. For a wider view see places for couples across the region.
