Zgorzelec solo means places where you feel at ease alone: churches, museums and a library, with no pressure to come with company.

Where to visit a museum in Zgorzelec when you travel alone?

A good start is Jacob Böhme House on Daszyńskiego Street. The German mystic and philosopher lived and wrote here, and today you see a reconstructed shoemaker's workshop and an upstairs room with copies of his manuscripts and first editions. It is a place for slow reading of the displays. A few hundred metres away stands the Lusatian Museum, running since 2007 in a historic townhouse from the turn of the 18th century. Its permanent exhibition has presented a Lusatian cottage from the 18th and 19th centuries since 2010.

Which churches in Zgorzelec are good to visit in silence?

Each of the three buildings has its own character. The Church of St John the Baptist in Ujazd is a brick Neo-Romanesque building from 1905-1907, originally Protestant, designed by architect Fritsche of Elberfeld, with an organ from the Sauer company of Frankfurt (Oder). St Boniface's Church at Emilii Plater 9 is about a kilometre from the Old Town Bridge. The Orthodox Church of Saints Constantine and Helena is small, wooden and Orthodox, covers 46 square metres and was built in 2001-2002 with support from the local Greek community. It has an onion dome on an octagonal turret. At each of them calm and respect for people at prayer matter most. All three are described under churches and monasteries in Zgorzelec.

What can you do alone when it rains?

There is the Municipal Public Library at Bohaterów Getta 1. It lends e-readers and board games, gives access to databases such as IBUK Libra and Cyfrowy Dolny Śląsk, and its main building houses a children's and youth department. More ideas of this kind are on Zgorzelec in the rain. A wider list of places for solo outings is solo attractions in the region, and the whole town is in attractions in Zgorzelec.
