Mountains in Głuszyca are domed Owl Mountains peaks between 716 and 811 metres above sea level, with tunnels from World War II hidden inside.

Which peaks make up the range near Głuszyca?

The peaks on this page belong to a separate range in the Owl Mountains, in the Central Sudetes. It runs from the Sokola Pass through Sokół, Osówka, Moszna and Jaworek, and ends at Jedlińska Kopa and Strażowa Góra. Włodarz, Osówka, Moszna and Jaworek are built of Precambrian gneiss, which geologists call Owl Mountains gneiss. Włodarz itself rises in a small ridge north-west of the centre of Walim and gives its name to the whole massif.

Which peak should you pick, from lowest to highest?

  • Osówka, 716 m: rises about 16 metres above the surrounding terrain and is covered with spruce forest mixed with broadleaf trees.
  • Jedlińska Kopa, 744 m: lies south-east of Jedlina-Zdrój, with traces of a narrow-gauge railway.
  • Moszna, 771 m: a domed summit south-west of Walim.
  • Jaworek, 781 m: between Włodarz and Moszna, west of Walim.
  • Włodarz, 811 m: the highest of them, with steep slopes and a flat summit.

If underground tunnels matter most, choose Osówka. If you want the highest and steepest summit on the list, go to Włodarz. Those who look for traces of history in the open air should visit Jedlińska Kopa. Check the routes and trail marking before you set out, since the descriptions do not give them.

What links these mountains to the secrets of the Third Reich?

During World War II the whole area was kept secret because the Riese complex was being built here. Beneath Osówka a guided underground route is open to visitors, and Moszna was covered by the same secrecy because of its place in the Włodarz massif. The slopes of Jedlińska Kopa preserve remains of a narrow-gauge railway. All these peaks carry the tags "Free", "Nature", "Beautiful views" and "Solo".

A different view of the same terrain is offered by nature in Głuszyca. The full town overview is in attractions in Głuszyca, a wider selection under mountains in the region, and nearby lies Jedlina-Zdrój.
