Karpacz on a rainy day means museums, an escape room, model trains and indoor play. See what to pick when the mountains vanish in cloud.

What can you do in Karpacz when it rains all day?

Museums are the safest choice. The Multimedia Museum of the Karkonosze tells the story of the mountains' history and nature through screens, projections and interactive installations, and a coffee from its own roastery comes with the ticket. Karkonoskie Tajemnice has a similar spirit: an underground exhibition about the Mountain Spirit and local legends, set where builders found a skeleton in 2011. Hiking history fans are welcome at the Museum of Sport and Tourism, set in an 18th-century half-timbered house, with badges, posters and souvenirs from the Karkonosze's past.

Check opening hours on each venue's website before you set out. All the museums in town are described on the museums in Karpacz page.

Where can you take kids when the weather turns?

The youngest enjoy Świat Kolejek (Railway World), where you steer the trains, switches and bridges yourself. The Toy Museum offers almost three hundred years of toys in a former railway station, from nativity figures to porcelain dolls, and the Museum of Fairy-Tale Wax Figures is a short, small stop with storybook characters. Two outdoor options, Park Bajek and Figlomania, also carry our "Na deszcz" tag, but they are open-air, so in a downpour choose indoor halls instead. As soon as the rain stops, children will find fairy-tale cottages, an obstacle course, a slide and a ball pool there.

What should a group plan if it wants to move around?

At Escape Room Pokoje Tajemnic you get 60 minutes to escape a room full of puzzles, including a Wild West one. If you prefer action, ask about paintball at Proshot (based in Kamienna Góra, a dozen or so kilometres from Karpacz) or at Quady Nitro Events, which also runs guided quad trips. Confirm where the game takes place before you travel. The escape room takes organised groups and hosts birthdays and team-building events, and it is best to book a slot in advance through its official website.

Technology fans should visit the Video Game Console Museum, where about a dozen machines can be played on original hardware, and the neighbouring Museum of Technology and Lego Brick Constructions. Both sit in one building.

How do you build a rainy day in Karpacz?

Pick one museum in the morning, something active in the afternoon, and take a short walk if the sky clears. More ideas are in the entertainment in Karpacz list, and for families on the Karpacz for families page. See also all attractions in Karpacz and rainy-day ideas across the whole region.
