Looking for beautiful views in Piechowice? Pick a ridge summit or a quiet foothill. Here are the goals with heights and descriptions.

Which peaks in Piechowice give the widest views?

Height gives the greatest range, so start with the ridge. Wielki Szyszak (1,509 m above sea level) is the second peak of the Polish Karkonosze, and the border with Czechia runs over its summit. The ruins of a monument to Wilhelm I from 1888 lie on top, but there is no marked trail to the peak. Łabski Szczyt (1,471 m) rises between Szrenica to the west and the Snowy Cirques to the east and is one of the characteristic points of the ridge trail above Szklarska Poręba. A PTTK hostel stands on its slope. Nearby reaches Śmielec (1,424 m), and close to it we describe the Snowy Cirques viewpoint.

Where to look for views without a ridge expedition?

In the Karkonosze Foothills. Grzybowiec (751 m) is the highest point of a broad massif with granite rocks, and a guesthouse called Grzybowiec-Bismarckhöhe stands on the top. Płoszczań (747 m) has clearings on its north-eastern slope, while the whole massif is covered in lower montane forest. Sobiesz rises above the highest buildings of Sobieszów, and Chojnik Castle stands nearby. Łagodna (676 m) and Świerczyna (665 m) neighbour each other at the Trzy Jawory crossroads. Sośnik (650 m) rises above Jagniątków, and uranium ore was briefly mined under it in 1954. The adits are closed to visitors. Bucznik (about 670 m) stands between Szklarska Poręba and Michałowice, not far from the Szklarka Waterfall.

Where to see rocks and cliffs?

Karkonosze granite shows itself in several places. Below the summit of Ostroga (1,090 m) lies a field of granite boulders, and the slopes are covered in spruce forest. The hill stands on the edge of the Karkonosze National Park. Szklarz (593 m) drops steeply north and west towards the Kamienna valley, forming rock cliffs. On the slope of Bucznik lie small rocks called Paciorki.

How to choose a goal for a viewpoint trip?

If you have a whole day and experience, aim for the ridge: Wielki Szyszak, Łabski Szczyt and Śmielec lie close together on the Silesian Ridge. If you prefer a shorter trip, choose Grzybowiec, Płoszczań or Świerczyna, where a blue trail runs from Piechowice through Michałowice to the pass below Śmielec. Hills such as Piechowicka Góra (604 m) or Mały Ciemniak (578 m, Izera Mountains, no marked trails) are best left for lighter outings.

All the peaks mentioned carry the free, nature and solo tags. See free attractions in Piechowice and Piechowice solo, and the peaks in order on mountains in Piechowice.
