Kamienna Góra solo: the underground Project Arado route, a castle ruin and a peak above town. Places that suit an outing on your own.

What to do in Kamienna Góra when you are alone?

The strongest point of the day is Project Arado, an underground tourist route built on the real story of German arms production in the Second World War. The tour takes the form of a staged game in which you play a Polish intelligence agent, and exhibits from those years wait along the route. It works for one person, because the game revolves around you, and for rain.

Where to walk on your own?

Kościelna, in German Kirchberg, is the northern end of the Raven Mountains (Góry Kruczne), rising in the fork of the Bóbr and Zadrna rivers right above the town centre. The massif has two summits: the main one at 513 metres and a lower one, called Góra Parkowa, at 511 metres. A Baroque church stands on the slope, and an underground tourist route runs inside the hill. Entry is free, and the peak carries the "Great views" and "Nature" tags.

Grodztwo Castle is a ruin today, once one of the most impressive palace residences in Lower Silesia. Around 1560-1565 a local branch of the Schaffgotsch family rebuilt an old defensive tower into a Renaissance residence with four wings. A fire destroyed it in 1964. View it with care, as with any ruin.

Which quiet places are in town?

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a modern parish church of the Legnica diocese with a tall square tower. Construction began in 1994, and the foundation stone was blessed in Legnica by Pope John Paul II on 2 June 1997. The church was consecrated in 2018. Older history is recalled by the Engmann family burial chapel of 1805, a small mausoleum on the grounds of the former Protestant cemetery, next to the church of Our Lady of the Rosary. It is out of use today, so you view it from outside.

For a calm afternoon choose the Municipal Public Library at Kościuszki 4. It runs a Mothers' Club, a Discussion Book Club and the PSYCHOteka collection.

More places are on the pages for Solo across the region and attractions in Kamienna Góra, and nearby also Lubawka and Krzeszów.
