Mountains in and around Nowa Wieś: Śnieżnik Massif summits from 1,326 m above sea level down to wooded Sośnik. Heights, rocks and known trails.

Which summits are the highest and how do they differ?

Leading the list is Mały Śnieżnik (1,326 m), built of gneiss, with mica schist on its eastern slopes and rock rubble in places. Right next to it stands its twin Goworek (1,320 m), next to the Śnieżnik Kłodzki reserve. Next come Wysoczka (1,185 m) and Puchacz (1,175 m). Puchacz lies on the Polish-Czech border, while Wysoczka is covered by lower montane spruce forest, and the Nowinka stream rises on its slope. Near Puchacz is the Śnieżnik Kłodzki nature reserve, and on the summit of Śnieżnik itself stands a lookout tower.

What about the mid-height mountains?

Hills from several hundred to just under a thousand metres have a different character. Jasień (about 936 m) is called Jelení vrch on the Czech side, and the lookout tower on Trójmorski Wierch stands nearby. Szeroka Kopa (871 m) is a Śnieżnik gneiss summit with spruce forest and some beech, in a side western ridge of Śnieżnik running north from Goworek. It is flanked by the valleys of the Domaszkowski stream to the north and the Wilczka to the south. Gawlik (788 m) and Owcza Góra (760 m) lie in the Śnieżnik Landscape Park, and in German times Owcza Góra was called Schafberg. Near Owcza Góra lies the Wilczka Waterfall, one of the most visited spots in the region. Sośnik sits on a side ridge that drops steeply towards the upper valley of the Nysa Kłodzka, and its slopes carry beech and spruce forest. It is the lowest of them: sources disagree on its height, giving 580 to 690 m, or 707 m for the summit point.

What is known about the trails?

The blue E3 trail and a yellow connecting trail cross Wysoczka. Near Szeroka Kopa runs the yellow trail from Międzygórze to the Puchacz Pass, plus a yellow-marked cycling route linking the Wilczka Waterfall with Nowa Wieś. For Gawlik and Sośnik the sources describe no marked trail. For the other peaks, check the approach before you set out.

Remember these are mountains, and individual listings give only the general location. Where a description ends at the location, do not assume you can find the way without a map. Mały Śnieżnik lies inside the nature reserve of the same name, Goworek next to it, and near Puchacz is the Śnieżnik Kłodzki reserve, so check nature protection rules on the spot at a tourist information point.
