Polanica-Zdrój solo: a hill with a chapel, a peak in the Bystrzyckie Mountains, museums and a library. Six places to visit on your own.

Where to go alone in Polanica-Zdrój?

To a hill, to the mountains or indoors. The "Solo" tag collects six places here where you do not need company and nobody will rush you. Two are hikes, two are museums, one is a library and one is a monastery with a church.

For a short walk, choose Twaróg, also known as Wzgórze Marii (Maria's Hill). It is a sandstone hill in the Bystrzyckie Mountains, 428 metres above sea level, within the borders of Polanica-Zdrój. A chapel with an image of the Virgin Mary stands below the summit, a municipal cemetery lies on the north-western slope, and the hill is covered mostly with spruce forest mixed with pine and deciduous trees. Before 1945 it was a popular destination for spa guests, and today it is free to visit.

Where for a longer hike?

Wietrznik is a broad peak in the Bystrzyckie Mountains, 765.7 metres above sea level, south-west of Polanica-Zdrój. The summit is only weakly marked, so from the ground it is hard to point out the highest spot. The peak lies between Smolna and Kamienna Góra, and a green trail runs at its south-eastern foot, linking Zieleniec with the Torfowisko pod Zieleńcem nature reserve. In our list the peak carries the tags "Piękne widoki" (great views), "Przyroda" (nature) and "Bezpłatne" (free).

What to see in Polanica-Zdrój alone if it rains?

The two missionary museums are places that are easy to visit on your own. The Missionary Museum on ulica Władysława Reymonta holds objects brought by missionaries and shows photos that go with them. The Ethnographic Missionary Museum in the monastery in Sokołówka has exhibits from Peru, Zaire, Tahiti and Easter Island, and since 1994 a monument to Blessed Damien de Veuster has stood in front of the building.

Right next door is the Church of Christ the King and the monastery of the White Fathers. The monastery was founded in 1927 in a former inn and today is also a retreat and holiday house. Finally there is the Municipal Public Library at aleja Wojska Polskiego 23 with author meetings and photography exhibitions.

When the weather turns, see also Polanica-Zdrój in the rain. The general offer of the spa town is on the page attractions in Polanica-Zdrój, and ideas for solo outings in other towns are on solo across the region.
