Good views around Sobótka begin on the peaks of the Ślęża Massif: Ślęża, Wieżyca, Bartoszek and Gozdnica, plus a stone lookout tower.
Where in Sobótka can you see a wider landscape?
Best start with Wieżyca, a summit 415 metres high. On it stands the Bismarck Tower: stone, 15 metres tall, built in 1905-1907 from fine-grained granite. It serves as a viewpoint and is open to visitors. From Sobótka you reach it by the yellow trail. The Wrocław Students' Association launched the construction, the foundation stone was laid on 13 May 1906 and the opening took place on 21 June 1907. The architect Wilhelm Kreis titled his design "Twilight of the Gods". It is one of 172 Bismarck towers surviving worldwide. A beech and lime forest covers the north slope of Wieżyca, and old oaks grow on the south one.
Ślęża impresses with a relative height of over 500 metres. The summit stands at 717.5 metres, the highest point of the Sudetic Foreland, so it stands out in the landscape. The massif is built mainly of granite and gabbro, and stone sculptures from an old cult still stand at the summit. Ślęża belongs to the Crown of Polish Mountains, the Crown of the Polish Sudetes and the Crown of Lower Silesian Mountains.
Which lower hills suit a shorter walk?
Bartoszek is 392 metres high and lies between Ślęża and Wieżyca, on the same yellow trail. In good weather you can stay here longer. The Dębowa Pass separates it from Wieżyca, and the old German name of the rise was Bartelhübel. The yellow trail over its summit runs from Świdnica through the Tąpadła Pass and Ślęża to Sobótka. Gozdnica is a rise about 317 metres high, once called Angel Hill; its present name comes from an Old Polish word meaning forest. Both carry the free, nature and solo tags. The terrain is mountainous, so check the approach before you set out.
