Which memorial site in Legnica is the oldest and most valuable?

For history, the Mausoleum of the Silesian Piasts stands out. It is a burial chapel beside the Church of St John the Baptist, built between 1677 and 1679 as the first Baroque burial chapel in Silesia. It commemorates the last dukes of Legnica and Brzeg and serves as a monument to the whole family.

Where is the largest cemetery in the city?

The Municipal Cemetery has existed continuously since 1822 and covers about 45 hectares. Wrocławska Street runs along its southern edge, and railway embankments bound it to the east and north. Plan your entrance from the Wrocławska Street side. This is a resting place, so keep quiet and show respect to people visiting the graves of their loved ones.

Which monuments can you see on Legnica squares?

The Monument to the Deportees to Siberia stands on Sybiraków Square and commemorates Poles deported to Siberia. It consists of three vertical blocks, the tallest over 4 metres high, topped with a bronze drape weighing about 8 tonnes. It was unveiled on 17 September 2015, on the anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939.

Lighter in tone is Julek, a sculpture by Edward Mirowski on the Market Square, next to the Art Gallery. A boy with a big schoolbag and a slingshot sticking out of it opens the series "Children of Legnica".

Entry to all four places is free. Next, check the historic sites of Legnica, free attractions and culture in the city. With children, see Legnica for children. For an overview, go to the Legnica attractions, and memorials elsewhere in the region are in the Cemeteries and monuments section.
