Nature in Międzygórze means a reserve with a waterfall, spruce forests and summits of the Śnieżnik Landscape Park. See how the routes differ.

What nature awaits in Międzygórze?

The village lies in the Śnieżnik Massif, one of the higher ranges of the Sudetes. The landscape park covering it protects local nature and scenery, and at the foot of Śnieżnik itself lies the Śnieżnik Kłodzki nature reserve. Spruce forest covers most of the summits, and gneiss and phyllite dominate the rock. For anyone who likes quiet outings, it is a good place for a whole day away from buildings. Apart from the waterfall the list consists of mountains, so nature here means forests and ridges, not gardens or city parks.

What is there to see in the reserve?

Wilczka Waterfall is a landscape nature reserve created in 1958 in the Bystrzyca Kłodzka municipality. It covers a stretch of the Wilczka stream valley just below the village centre, the waterfall and part of the gorge. The drop is 22 metres, the second largest in the Polish Sudetes. At its base the water has carved a small erosion pot, and in low temperatures in winter an ice fall forms.

Which summits show forest and rock?

You will find spruce forest on Czarna Kopa (879 m), built of Śnieżnik gneiss, and on Lesieniec (868 m). The latter is a ridge without rocks or outcrops, so nature appears in plain form: gneiss, spruce and no viewpoint. A green and a blue trail lead there. It rises right above Międzygórze, on the slope of much taller Śnieżnik. Toczek (713 m) shows a cross-section: lower spruce forest, mountain meadows above and the Rock Gate and Tower on its slopes.

The higher parts are Średniak (1210 m), built of phyllites of the Stronie series and Śnieżnik gneiss, and Jaworowa Kopa (1138 m) and Smrekowiec (1123 m), both within the landscape park. Góra Modrzewiowa (703 m) stands right by the edge of the park above the gorge of the Upper Nysa, and its western slope is very steep and craggy. It is built of the gneiss of the Lądek and Śnieżnik metamorphic complex, the same as neighbouring hills, and it divides the Muszany Dół valley from the river gorge. For anyone interested in geology it is a good target for a quiet walk, and in the same rock complex as the neighbouring hills of the massif.

How to combine routes and where to find more?

The simplest plan is to start at the waterfall and then pick one hill. Check trail conditions before you leave, because the descriptions give no marking.
