Free things to do in Głogów are mostly monuments, the biggest city park and one church. A route for half a day without buying a single ticket.

What can you see in Głogów without a ticket?

Mostly monuments, and most stand near the centre. On John Paul II Square, next to the Castle of the Dukes of Głogów, you will find the Monument to the Children of Głogów, the biggest and best known memorial in town, paid for by residents after an idea from the Głogów Cultural Society in 1966. Its sculptor was Dymitr Vacev. A few steps away is the Library of the Holy Pilgrim: a stone monument to John Paul II and a lapidarium on the site of the medieval church of St Peter, unveiled in 2006.

On Plac Słowiański stands the Anti-Hitler Coalition Monument from 1948, rebuilt in 1995 and 12 metres high. It commemorates Soviet soldiers who died in 1945, in a sober way. The Jewish cemetery in Głogów tells the story from another side: the graves are gone, the newer necropolis was closed in 1937 and a primary school stands on the former site.

Where can you take a free walk among greenery in Głogów?

In Forest Park, the largest green area in town. It runs from the roundabout at Krzywoustego street along the Chrobry Ramparts and Piastowska street to Rudnowska street. In the park you will find a historic gazebo from 1910 with a bust of Goethe and a cycling education zone, and at the crossing of Krzywoustego and Staromiejska streets the granite Monument to the Victims of War, unveiled in 2000. It is dedicated to Polish and German victims of war, violence and expulsion.

For a shorter break, the Jan of Głogów bench from 2007 is enough. A plaque on the figure's thigh marks the 500th anniversary of the scholar's death, with the residents of Głogów as founders. The seated astronomer and teacher of Copernicus leaves room beside him, so a photo with him is the easiest item on the programme.

Can you enter a church in Głogów for free?

This portal marks the Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland on Kard. Wyszyńskiego square as free. It is a modern church built in 1981-1987 to a design by Jerzy Gurawski, Marian Fikus and Jan Liszkowski, on the initiative of the copper-basin mining community. Keep quiet and plan your visit around services.
