Fabryczna attractions in Wrocław: parks, Leśnica Castle, the depot museum, go-kart tracks and play rooms. See what to visit in the west of the city.
This page gathers places from the western neighbourhoods of Wrocław, from Grabiszyn and Gajowice to Leśnica and Strachowice. You will not find the Market Square here, but you will find large parks, a castle, a museum in a former tram depot and entertainment for families. The centre is covered on the Wrocław attractions page, and the north and east on the Psie Pole page.
Which Fabryczna park should you choose for a walk?
For a long walk pick Grabiszyński Park or West Park, and for a calmer one Leśnica Park with its castle. The western neighbourhoods have many parks, so you can plan several walks without repeating a route. Below they are described from the biggest to the more intimate, with a hint of how they differ.
Grabiszyński Park covers 48 hectares, with an avenue of lime trees as the main walking axis and two parts: one by Haller Avenue, the other along the Ślęza river. It was laid out on a former municipal cemetery. West Park, also known as Bebelpark, has an avenue of oaks and remains of First World War fortifications. It was created in 1897 to 1899, partly on the site of former cemeteries.
Tysiąclecia Park in Muchobór Wielki lies on both banks of the Ślęza and has roller-skating tracks and outdoor sculptures. Popowicki Park covers 16.5 hectares on the left bank of the Oder. Złotnicki Park has 20 hectares and traces of early medieval strongholds, and Strachowicki Park is a former manor park with small ponds. Leonardo da Vinci Park in Gądów has a sculpture of the Vitruvian Man. The full list is under parks and nature.
What is there to see in Leśnica and around it?
Leśnica is the most historic part of western Wrocław. You will see a castle, a palace park on the Bystrzyca river and a few smaller parks. Reserve half a day and plan your journey, because these are neighbourhoods away from the Market Square, and it is best to start at the castle and walk on to the park.
Leśnica Castle is a former ducal residence on St John Square, listed as a monument and now the seat of the Zamek Culture Centre. From 1339 to 1945 it served as a residence of wealthy burgher families of Wrocław. Leśnica Park covers 21 hectares on the Bystrzyca, with a Renaissance castle, a hornbeam maze and ponds.
A footbridge over the Bystrzyca leads to the Stabłowice neighbourhood. There lies Stabłowicki Park, once the private park of the botanist Karl Lauterbach, now public, with three natural monuments. Nature lovers will be interested in the Pilczycki Forest nature reserve, the first nature reserve in Wrocław, where the Ślęza joins the Oder. Remember that the area is protected and has no marked paths.
Which museums, hills and memorial places can you visit?
The most important museum in the west is the Depot History Centre on Grabiszyńska Street. Nearby you will also find the Śląsk Museum at the stadium and artificial hills with views over the city. Visit memorial places and cemeteries quietly and with respect, without hurry or noise.
The Depot History Centre occupies a brick building of a former tram depot from the end of the 19th century. The museum opened in 2016, and its exhibition is called Wrocław 1945-2016. The Śląsk Museum at the stadium tells the story of the football section of the WKS Śląsk Wrocław club. ELWRO Square in Grabiszyn commemorates the Wrocław Electronic Works.
Mała Sobótka is an artificial hill in Grabiszyn, a place for walks and, in winter, sledging. Gajowice Hill was created by reclaiming a former landfill and has an outdoor gym and a view of the city. In Oporów stands a timber-framed manor house from 1550, now privately owned and in poor condition.
The Italian Soldiers Cemetery in Grabiszyn is the resting place of 1016 Italian soldiers taken prisoner after the battle of Caporetto in 1917. Grabiszyński Cemetery is among the largest necropolises in Wrocław.
Where can you go karting, horse riding or find other entertainment?
In Fabryczna you will find plenty of active entertainment: go-kart tracks, mini golf, a roller rink and riding stables. Most places accept visitors from outside, and some organise birthdays and company events. Check the rules, height limits and hours on the organisers' pages before you set off, because every place has its own terms.
Le Mans Wrocław is the flagship track of the chain, described as the largest and widest among its locations, with many turns and a slalom. TOP1 Karting in Muchobór Wielki has a track more than 850 metres long, with an indoor and an outdoor part, karts for juniors and tandem rides. City Golf beside Grabiszyński Park is a family golf centre with a driving range and a mini golf course.
Like horses? In Maślice you will find Ranczo nad Odrą and Lotos Stable, and in Jerzmanowo-Jarnołtów-Strachowice-Osiniec the Pod Topolami stable. In Nowy Dwór there is the Spartan roller rink, turned into an ice rink in winter.
Where can you go with children in the west of Wrocław?
The west has several play rooms, a trampoline hall and parks with playgrounds. Play rooms work in shopping centres and in residential neighbourhoods, so it is easy to combine them with shopping or a walk. Choose by the age of the children and by the weather, and keep the park with slides for a nice day.
Jump Hall on Szybowcowa Street is an indoor hall with trampolines, a rope park and a climbing wall. Pikoland play rooms work in Pasaż Królewiecki and in the Astra shopping centre, and Fiku Miku on Białowieska Street has three levels and a cafe for parents. Figloparki in Muchobór Wielki has an obstacle course, bouncy castles and a ball pit.
Outdoors you can visit Mammoth Park in Oporów, with an eight-metre mammoth structure with slides, created through the citizens' budget. More places for families are listed under attractions for children.
