Churches and monasteries in Kłodzko: a Franciscan monastery, two filial churches and a former synagogue. See how they differ.

Which monastery in Kłodzko is still active?

The Franciscan monastery complex is a Baroque monastery from 1731 beside the church of Our Lady of the Rosary. It stands in the middle of Piasek Island, at Franciszkański Square 1. The monastery is active: Franciscans live there and run regular parish life at the church, with Masses on weekdays and Sundays.

How do the filial churches in Kłodzko differ?

Several churches in town have similar names, so they are easy to mix up. The Church of St Ignatius of Loyola stands in the Ustronie district, on Półwiejska Street, and is a filial church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish. It was built in 1880 in the neo-Gothic style, on a rectangular plan, with a small bell turret on the roof.

The Church of the Motherhood of the Blessed Virgin Mary lies in Zagórze and belongs to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross parish. It was built in 1854 in the neo-Baroque style as a modest single-nave building. It is not the parish church.

Where was the synagogue in Kłodzko?

The synagogue on Chrobrego Square appeared after the war, in 1946, right after the Jewish Religious Community was founded. It was a house of prayer of an Orthodox community, set up in an existing tenement house on Bolesław Chrobry Square rather than built from scratch. Later it moved to the market square area.

All four sites carry the Solo tag, so they suit a walk on your own, which you can combine with cemeteries and monuments, places with character or architecture in Kłodzko. For the whole town see Kłodzko attractions, and for sacred sites elsewhere open churches and monasteries across the region.
